2027 AVEPM Workshop: An Introduction to Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for Epidemiology

Instructor: Casey Cazer, DVM, PhD (Assistant Professor and Associate Director, Small Animal Community Practice Service, Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine)

This interactive workshop will introduce participants to the use of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) in epidemiology. Participants will explore different types of AI models, strategies for using AI effectively and responsibly in epidemiologic research, factors influencing model reliability and applicability, approaches for evaluating AI/ML tools, and ethical, legal, and practical considerations.

No coding or personal datasets are required. Basic familiarity with RStudio is recommended. Participants should bring a laptop.

The Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (AVEPM) hosted a special workshop on survey methodology and qualitative methods, led by Dr. Jacinda Dariotis, Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
